At 3D Space Terraform, we envision a rural makerspace that serves as both a training hub and an innovation engine, empowering Alberta’s communities to harness local resources and create a sustainable future. We are working towards the funding to bring this vision to life, transforming our makerspace into a center for hands-on learning in 3D printing, sustainable construction, and entrepreneurial development, for all ages and abilities.
Our makerspace will be structured with distinct levels of learning. At the foundational level, we will guide participants through the basics of design and desktop 3D printing, teaching essential concepts and techniques that are accessible to beginners. As participants advance, we’ll provide training on applying these skills at larger scales, covering topics like creating art installations, constructing human-scale structures, and experimenting with diverse materials such as clay, hempcrete, and other local resources. This progression will enable individuals to transition from understanding core concepts to tackling ambitious, community-focused and community-implemented projects.
Beyond education, our makerspace will function as a workshop and production hub, generating products for sale and fostering local industry. By supporting everything from home-based businesses to potential commercial spin-offs, we aim to build a thriving ecosystem that promotes sustainable economic growth in rural Alberta. Through partnerships with schools, local organizations, and research institutions, we’ll create a network of innovators committed to making Alberta a leader in sustainable construction and regenerative practices.
This initiative will serve as a replicable model for sustainable rural development. Together, we can shape a future where Alberta’s rural communities are equipped with the skills, resources, and entrepreneurial spirit needed to drive meaningful change.
Consider investing in our makerspace, you would be supporting a vision of local resilience, environmental stewardship, and economic empowerment for a sustainable tomorrow.
As of October 2024 we have partnered with Parkland County Libraries to offer a series of 3D Printing courses for our rural communities. Our first classes were October 19-20 and were a complete success! Students aged 10-14 learned the basics of 3D printing design and implementation.
3D printing is complicated. But as technology surges forward we have new opportunities to tech printing in real time with more advanced design tools.
The Cracked Cauldron 3D came to be as an expression of community involvement that includes our kids, giving them an opportunity to learn 3D prints and sell at our local markets. It has become wildly successful. In addition to local markets we repair printers and donate them to local libraries and schools.
Check out our Facebook page! You'll find the list of local craft fairs where you can find us, as well as the posts on where to find our local 3D printing course offerings!
